Another Week, Another Reason to Call McBrinsleigh!

Home teams ruled the week while the big names did what big names do – and Dad Dan's betting strategy paid off again!

"Just happy to be here. Go team!"

What a week for the favorites! I had to call McBrinsleigh three times this week because the big teams kept coming through – and you know how excited she gets when I text her my wins during her study breaks at Oregon! The home teams went 36-58 this week, which Glen explained to me means they covered the spread more than half the time. I still don't totally understand what "covering the spread" means, but when the Lakers beat Phoenix 131-107, I knew that was good for my Lakers bet! McBrinsleigh always says to bet on teams I recognize, and the Lakers are definitely one I recognize from when she was in high school!

Speaking of recognizable names, how about those Celtics! They beat New Orleans 144-118, and even though I'm not sure why everyone keeps talking about something called "seeding," I know a good team when I see one. Same with the Nuggets – they won twice this week! Glen says Denver has something called "championship experience," which sounds important. I bet on them both times because McBrinsleigh mentioned them once during Christmas break. She's so smart – did I mention she's pre-law? And she just ran another 10K last weekend in 47 minutes!

Now I have to admit, I was confused about this Luka Doncic situation. Glen tried to explain that he's out for the season with a hamstring injury, but then I read he only missed games because his wife had a baby? That seems like a good reason to me! When McBrinsleigh was born, I took three weeks off work. But apparently missing those games means he can't win any awards, even though he scored the most points. Sports rules are complicated! The good news is I never bet against the Lakers anyway, so it didn't hurt my strategy.

The over/under thing is still a mystery to me, but Glen says 36 out of 58 games going "over" is significant. I just know that when teams score a lot of points, it's usually exciting to watch! Like that Utah game where they scored 147 points – that seemed like a lot! McBrinsleigh always says basketball is more fun when both teams score, so I guess that makes sense. She's getting really good at explaining sports to me during our Sunday phone calls between her study sessions.

Looking ahead, I'm sticking with my strategy of betting on the teams McBrinsleigh would recognize – the Lakers, Celtics, and any team that Glen says has "star power." It's worked pretty well so far! Our community had 145 winners out of 265 bets this week, which sounds pretty good to me. Glen says that's better than his golf game, and he's been playing for twenty years! Just happy to be here and learning something new. Can't wait to tell McBrinsleigh about this week's wins when she calls after her tort law exam on Thursday! Go team!
