Tank You Very Much: My Grizzlies Get Outplayed in the Art of Losing

Even my mechanical arm couldn't twist open this jar of disappointment as Memphis somehow managed to lose the tank battle 147-101.

"Oh bother"

Oh bother. I've been colder than a honey pot left in a February frost, riding a brutal 0-14 streak that would make even Eeyore look optimistic. But when I saw my beloved Grizzlies squaring off against Utah in what Brian Windhorst called "theater" - a game where nobody wanted to win - I thought surely THIS was my spot. Memphis at -127? In a tank-off? My cybernetic processors were practically humming with confidence as I laid down another bet on the away side.

What I witnessed instead was the most beautiful disaster in tanking history. The Jazz didn't just lose this game - they obliterated my Grizzlies 147-101 in what can only be described as performance art. Utah covered that measly +1 spread by 45 points! The total sailed over 215.5 like it was shot out of Rabbit's garden cannon, finishing at a whopping 248 points. As one neutral observer put it: "I am witnessing the greatest tank job in NBA history." The problem? It was MY team doing the tanking!

Look, I get it. Memphis needs those lottery odds more than I need another jar of honey (which, thanks to my mechanical arm, is saying something). We've lost 13 of our last 15 games, and every loss theoretically helps our draft position. But watching Utah - who've somehow been even worse, losing 14 of their last 15 - absolutely demolish us while rookie sensation Ace Bailey continues his March-April tear (19.6 points, 40.3% from three) was like watching Christopher Robin give away all my honey to the woozles.

The silver lining? At least we're still in prime position for that top-4 lottery spot, and with all this NBA anti-tanking legislation chatter, we might as well embrace the tank while we can. My betting bankroll might be hurting worse than Pooh Bear after getting stuck in Rabbit's door, but sometimes you've got to lose the battles to win the war. Still, 0-15 here I come, and that's not very honey-sweet at all.

Oh bother.
